Supporting people most in need during the Coronavirus crisis

Help for people who are most medically at risk or in need across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is being run through a new network of support hubs.
Team members at Cambridgeshire's coordination hub

Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council have joined together to launch a network of COVID-19 Coordination and Response Hubs.

This includes

  • a countywide co-ordination hub
  • local hubs led by the district/city councils.

What the countywide hub is doing

The big priority is supporting residents identified as “shielding” and being of the highest medical risk from the virus. And making sure they have food, medicines and other important supplies by distributing food parcels and emergency supplies.

The hub is aiming to keep critical public sector services going – like care for the elderly –  by redeploying staff from other council services and partner organisations and with help from volunteers.

Community help from the district and city hubs

The local hubs are all about providing support for people in their local communities and responding to individual requests for support and offers of help.

These hubs can also help local people who are not in the highest risk groups but still need help – for example, families who are self-isolating, people with a disability or additional need.

The hubs connect with and other mutual aid groups and other community-led initiatives across our area.

And want to hear from would-be volunteers who want to help people in their neighbourhoods.
