Cambridge and South Cambs Health and Care Forum 2nd July - Summary Report
Chair: Frances Dewhurst
Key Updates & Discussion:
Cambridge and Peterborough NHS
- An Adult Physical Health Services Presentation was delivered by Adrian Ball, Operations Director, Older Peoples and Adults Community Directorate. Adrian spoke about all the services offered and how to refer in. Adrian responded to everyone's questions and concerns.
Questions that arose from public and professionals:
- There is a crisis in the community with adult wellbeing checks - individuals don’t know when nurses will be visiting and when they turn up, they are unaware of the reasons why. There needs to be something in place for this.
- There has been an increase in mental health referrals to nursing homes (particularly from places like Fulbourn) which are privately funded. What support is available for these individuals? There seems to be a disparity of information, and individuals are not always given the correct/appropriate information required.
- My GP said there was no podiatry referral available - but there is. There seems to be a lot of conflicting information and not enough awareness around the services available. How can individuals and GPs access referral information?
- I have concerns about the stroke rehabilitation protocol. It is only 6 weeks and is not adapted to the individual as they often require further intervention after this point.
Anna Tuke, Cambridge and Peterborough NHS:
- Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Boards are merging.
- CPFT is now a teaching partner with Cambridge University. The ambition is this will have a really positive impact on recruitment and research.
- There are specific challenges for adults with ADHD compounded by medication shortages.
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)
- The NIHR research team updated on studies taking place in GP surgeries, schools and care homes across Cambridgeshire.
- We also heard from Anneka He from THIS Institute about a study she has been running at Mill Road Surgery.
