Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough welcomes new Chair Jonathan Jelley MBE JP

Today we have appointed our new Chair, Jonathan Jelley MBE JP. Jonathan succeeds Stewart Francis, who is stepping down this month after nearly four years as our strategic lead.

Jonathan Jelley MBE JP takes up his appointment officially on the 26th June 2025 and is committed to ensuring patients and service users remain at the heart of decision making in the development of local health and care services.

Alongside a successful career in investment banking, where he held senior corporate roles for over 30 years, Jonathan has also spent over 20 years volunteering with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. Jonathan currently serves as a Presiding Justice (Magistrate) and chairs several local and regional boards supporting community and voluntary work.

I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Chair of Healthwatch Cambridgeshire & Peterborough. In doing so, I pay tribute to my predecessor Stewart Francis who led us with real impact and integrity.

On-going changes and new opportunities ahead

Jonathan’s appointment – announced at our Board meeting this evening – comes at a time of on-going change and new challenges across health and social care services. One of Jonathan’s priorities will be to ensure Healthwatch continues to a play a critical role in ensuring patient voices are heard at every level of our health and care system.

We are in the midst of major reform across health and social care – and now more than ever, it is vital that patients and service users remain at the heart of decision making.

Healthwatch plays a crucial role in making sure those voices are heard and acted upon, and I will be working with our staff and volunteers to ensure we remain a trusted and influential voice in shaping better care for all.
